Baltimore Sun reports that Robert Parker is 'taking a hard look at Campo'
'Wine Advocate critic resigns amid payment allegations Baltimore-based reviewer for Parker denies charges
By Jill Rosen, The Baltimore Sun 4:19 p.m. EST, December 6, 2011 A Baltimore-area oenophile has resigned as a critic for the influential Wine Advocate in the wake of allegations that a representative sought payments from vineyards for him to visit them.
Once again it is the email sent by Pancho Campo from Tuscany on 4th June 2011 that is the most damaging. Parker is quoted saying that Miller is "completely innocent" but that an investigation has been launched and he is taking a hard look at Campo.
The Baltimore Sun has a weekday circulation of just over 200,000 copies.

Paid to sip? Wine scandal swirls around Baltimore criticReviewer for Robert Parker denies charges
Robert Parker's earlier comments do not appear in this second version of the story. Instead there are more comments from Jay Miller as well as comments I made when the reporter, Jill Rosen, phoned me yesterday afternoon. Miller is quoted as saying that he doesn't know if Campo attempted to bribe any wineries. "That's the 64,000 dollar question," he says. "But in the end, only he knows."

ReplyDeleteSorry for the gap.
Jim, please, can you delete the first one?
just to point out that there is a small mistake in the new.
as follows:
'...When the vineyard, D.O. Vinos de Madrid in the Spanish town of Navarra,...'
D.O. Vinos de Madrid is not a vineyard but what in France is an AOC.
And its an AOC of the region of Madrid, not in Navarra.
And Navarra is not a town, it's a region of Spain, North-East from Madrid, about 400 kms.
Thanks Francesc. There is an email on the Baltimore page if you want to contact Jill Rosen.
ReplyDeleteAmericans living in the town of Florida or New Mexico should know Navarra is a province, not a town, at least...
ReplyDeleteFor the rest, there's wikigeo, maybe.
Will maybe Jim Budd be the main speaker at the next wine future
