A weekend in Lowestoft

Lowestoft central: gateway to the UK

Why a weekend in Lowestoft you might well ask. Well every year in either April or May a group of us who were together at Manchester University meet up along with our partners in a different seaside resort. The criteria for selection is that the resort must have a pier. This year there are 17 of us.

Lowestoft was once a major fishing port and the signs are clear with its long high street, which must run for a mile or more with the upper part having a number of interesting old buildings and a series of 'scores', steep sets of steps leading down from the upper part of the town to the shore.

Hatfield Hotel

Shops in the old part of the high street.
