Epeigné-les-Bois: birds are cold and the ground is frozen
We regularly feed the birds, especially at the moment when the ground is frozen making it difficult for them to feed. Some shots of a blackbird feeding on some scraps of bread this morning.
And then, to show their gratitude, they poo on your doorstep and windows ... Mind you : mee too, I love to watch tits in my close vicinity, moving about, standing upright, as if erect. Oh, their jolly colours, their lovely little shrieks and squelches, the grace of it all!
Do you feed them anything other than breadcrumbs? I ask because although easy and traditional, breadcrumbs are by no means ideal, as they should be soaked before putting out for birds so they can digest them easily. In this weather they just freeze. Better to put out cheese, lard, seeds, sultanas, apples.

ReplyDeleteThanks Susan. Yes we only occasionally put out bread crumbs and we do usually soak them. Instead we mainly put out seeds on the bird table.
